It was a brilliant game from start to finish and anyone that never got the chance to try it out should attempt to track down a copy. The objective is to keep yourself from being killed long enough to figure out who the killer is and somehow stop them. Jumping back to the present, the killer has nowhere to hide and stalls his attempts on your life a little longer. So you travel back in time to the precise moment that the tree was being planted by a peasant farmer, and stop him from planting it there. You watch yourself be murdered by a killer who jumps out from behind a giant oak tree and stabs you in the back. The best part was watching how your actions in the past affected the present whenever you returned to your own timeline. The game takes place in three parts: a prologue, eight chapters, and an epilogue. You actually die at the beginning of the game, and are given a chance to save your own life if you can unravel a mystery. The objective of Shadow of Memories is to guide player character Eike Kusch through the fictional German town of Lebensbaum (Life's Tree) as he travels through time to prevent and unmask his murderer. One of my fave gaming experiences ever, SoD had you controlling a character through a time travelling murder mystery. Or maybe it's hard to find? I bought the PS2 version back in the days, I also know there's an Xbox and PC version available. I fully recommend you to get it since it should be pretty cheap anyway. The music is great and pretty strange, voices ranges from passable to totally OK. I also like the atmosphere a lot, the town you move around in is very European and idyllic, but also unsettling. It also has a lot of different endings and it's pretty fast to get all of them (especially since you can skip all the cutscenes and already know the solutions to most of the problems the second time through). There are a number of moments I found really cool in the game, with the story twists and how you save yourself from dying in various ways. It has a lot of story and time-travel, which I think is an awesome combination. Shadow of Destiny is not exactly packed with puzzles and gameplay. I don't mind cutscene-heavy games at all as long as they're entertaining. I love it, but you have to prepared for what the game is.
